Subject:  Laplink (early version): (see below for Laplink Pro)

                LAPLINK CABLE PINOUTS:

  9 Pin      25 Pin               25 Pin       9 Pin
  _____      ______               ______       _____

    2 -------- 3 ------------------- 2 --------- 3     Rx Red
    3 -------- 2 ------------------- 3 --------- 2     Tx Green

    5 -------- 7 ------------------- 7 --------- 5     Ground Black

LAPLINK PROGRAM FILES:

Copy DD.EXE into the root drive (C:) of the slave or Server PC.

Copy DD.BIN, and DDINSTAL.EXE into the root drive of the master or
Lead PC.

RUNNING LAPLINK:

On the Slave PC, either at the DOS Prompt or as the last item in the
AUTOEXEC.BAT file, enter "DD". This will bring up a default screen
showing LAPLINK is active on port 1. Unless you want to change
something, don't touch the keyboard.

On the Master PC, the CONFIG.SYS file must be modified with something
like "DEVICE=DD.BIN /C1 /DA2000 /PL /S115200". This loads a device
driver with certain parameters. Luckily this is easy to do by running
"DDINSTAL" at the DOS Prompt.

If you have used the SUBST command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file you should "rem" those statements, as LAPLINK does not recognize them as physical drives and will hide the remote drives if there is a conflict.

Once this is been done, reboot your PC and you're ready to roll.

Now the drives on the slave should appear as the next drives behind the last drive on the Master. So if both PC's have a C and D Hard Drive, and two floppies, this will be the drive configuration:

    MASTER
   ________

      A  floppy
      B  floppy
      C  hard
      D  hard
      E  -------- Slave's A: floppy
      F  -------- Slave's B: floppy
      G  -------- Slave's C: hard
      H  -------- Slave's D: hard

USING LAPLINK:

If you use XTREE, you can log, tag, copy, edit, as if the Slaves drives were part of the Master. If you want to copy an entire drive, sub-directories and all, use this simple command:

        C:>xcopy [from]: [to]: /s /e or... xcopy g: c: /s /e

It will transfer about a MB a minute.

Note: It will not copy hidden files using this command.
